Names Kent New Director of Golf
Mat Kent has been promoted to Director of Golf at Fiddlers Elbow Country Club
Bedminster, NJ - Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, New Jersey has announced that Mat Kent has been named Director of Golf. The announcement coincides with the club’s recent completion of Phase Two of a multi-million dollar master plan renovation and a repositioning of the club from exclusively a corporate based membership to a hybrid blend of families and executives
Kent is a native of Whitesboro, New York where his roots in golf began. In search of year round golf weather, Mat traveled west to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the Professional Golf Management program at New Mexico State University. Upon graduation and receiving PGA Membership in 1998, Mat took a first assistant position at Teugega Country Club in Rome, New York.
He developed his talents at several other prestigious facilities in the Central New York section before arriving at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, New Jersey. During his tenure in New Jersey he has been an assistant professional at Hamilton Farm Golf Club and The Ridge at Back Brook before taking over the golf operations at Basking Ridge Country Club.
Kent joined Fiddler’s Elbow in March of 2012 as the PGA Head Professional. For two seasons Mat assisted with the entire golf operation while developing programs focused on member families. In 2014, Mat was given the opportunity to develop the Fiddler’s Elbow Golf Academy as the Director of Instruction.
In addition to his passion for golf, Mat also grew up playing hockey, baseball, basketball and lacrosse. Through the Titleist Performance Institute Mat become interested in working out and developing stronger bodies and golf swings. He is TPI certified as a Golf Coach and Junior Coach and a member of the Certified Golf Coach Association.
Mat lives in Washington Township with his wife Kellen, son Tayt who is 3 years old and daughter Madigan who will turn two in February.
Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club is one of the the state’s premiere family clubs and the only 54-hole facility of its kind. The club has recently invested millions of dollars in adding and upgrading both its facilities and human capital.
In the last two years it has added one of the finest golf practice facilities in the country, renovated and upgraded all of its dining venues, pro shop, locker rooms, clubhouse and ballroom, built a state-of-the art aquatics/pool complex and added tennis courts and programs for the first time ever that will launch in 2015.
Kent was previously the club’s Director of Instruction. According to General Manager Tom Hurley, “We didn’t have to search far to find the right guy for the job. For the last three years Mat has been a significant part of our staff who is equally beloved and respected by our members, his Fiddler’s colleagues and his peers in the golf community.”
